Perhaps the cutest little family currently residing on the planet!

Abbe called me a few weeks ago to set up a session & I knew I was going to like her instantly.

El Suite De Bebe'...

(That's half Spanish, half French if you were confused. I made it up.)

Gabriel had a bit of a tough time when he was first born & they missed out on the traditional newborn portraits, but now that I look at these photos, I think these are much more special. Gabe's personality is so palpable & I love that about growing babies.

The Eyes, The Smile, I can't take it!

The following image makes me want to cry. So Beautiful.

There is something about the motion in this photo that I just love.

It was a blooper, but I kept it anyways.

I ask you, is there anything more scrumptious than baby feet?

Gabriel adores his dad. As is should be.

Someone has a Mini-Me. I'll give you two guesses, but you'll only need one...

As a photographer, I generally stay rather partial about photos. And then there is a rare occasion that comes along when I wish I could insert myself & my family right into the photos and hang them on my wall.

So cruel, yet so cute. How could we resist?!

Meet The Murguia's.

Otherwise known as my family. Part of it anyway.

Matthew is my cousin & I grew up chasing him around. He used to put my shoes in the freezer to make me cry! Valeri has been around since before I can remember & I was a junior bridesmaid in their wedding.

Cruz.

We used to call him Cruzer but he's a teenager now & way too cool for those kind of shenanigans.
As you can see he has a hard time playing it cool & being serious. I call it being "Abercrombie".

When he was a baby, his hair stood strait up like a Mohawk that leaned to the side a little.

It was the most adorable thing in the Universe.

Sofia. La Princessa.
She was the first girl in the family since Yours Truly & has been the only girl in the family until my daughter Lily was born. She is also my God daughter.

She is always laughing about something. Seriously. In almost every picture she was LoL-ing.

Such a beautiful girl. Looks just like her momma.

Aaron & Marisa were married at Calvary Baptist Church in Marina & hosted their reception at The Backhorse Golf Course in Seaside.

I met up with Marisa & her family at their home to start off the day.

While I was photographing newborn photos with Luke I also took some photos of him with his parents.

How cute is this new family?!?.....

I feel like this photo, moreso than most, looks like it's a frozen moment in time...

At first he was a little confused about being wrapped in an American Flag,

...but he eventually gave his seal of approval!

I find Luke's mom to be stunning. I'm always blown away by new mothers who I encounter at newborn sessions. They are so calm & composed, as was Stephanie. I always remember being a completely disheveled basket case after my own daughter was born & so this quality in a new mom always strikes me as Utterly Amazing.

Um, I 100% love this....

Dan was no slouch either! He did great & was so patient with all the crazy things I was asking him to do!

There is something so great about being able to photograph great friends. Obviously, we already know one another and there is an added layer of ease already established, so it's almost like second nature & everything just falls into place from there. I was waiting with baited breath for Tony & Diana to have this baby so I could grab my camera and go visit!

I took a ton of photos of Madison, in all her little cutie outfits. Which was the point of course. However, when I got home, I realized that I also took a ton of family photos. The three of them & then just Madison with each of her parents & I fell so in love with them that I had to edit them first!

I don't usually color select. It's just not my style. But I felt like if there was ever an opportunity to change my mind, this was the photo to do it for...

I think this might be my favorite picture of Diana & Madison. Hands down.

Funny story about the following pose. Parents love this pose. It's all the rage. And until it is your turn to partake in this fabulous shot setup, you really have no idea what it is that you are getting yourself into!

It's a challenge for sure & all the adults (including myself) are sweating profusely with a matching skyrocketing blood pressure, but its so worth it in the end.

However, this is how most of them turn out. Still adorable, if you ask me.

Monterey Engagement Session

Ashika & Fungai are from Sacramento, however Monterey is one of Ashika's favorite places & so it was her choice local for their engagement pictures!

It was a beautiful afternoon. The water was A-mazing.

Ashika kept joking that her hair has a mind of its own. But I love it! I think it adds an extra candid touch.

I kept telling Fungai to pretend like I wasn't there & he insisted that he just didn't get it.

Caden has grown so much since I met him. He is such a good listener when it comes to picture taking. Two years ago... not so much. Way to go Caden!

Jacers {I just call him that. His proper name is just, Jace} is another story all together. He could otherwise be known in photos as Mr. GrumpyPants.

Because he almost always scowls his chubby cheeks.

It's frustrating. And Hilarious. All at once.

Audra is one!

I can't believe it has been over a year since her mom first contacted me. Time flies & it is truly such a full circle moment to see a child grow from infancy into a cheerful little romper before my eyes.

Kids & Cakes are always such a surprise. Some kids love to dig into their celebratory birthday cakes straight away. While others, like Audra are often times unsure about the whole experience & would rather just keep clean.

This is Sage & she is adorably A-dorable.

She is only three short months old but already has the personality of an Elephant. She reminds me so much of my little girl at that age. Sage is alert, aware, animated & just a joy to be around.

However her mom Sarah definitely does not remind me of myself when Lily was that age!

I was a complete & utter basket case! But Sarah handles the challenges of being a new mother with grace & composure. {Even if she thinks that she doesn't!} She is gentle, kind & patient with her little muffin.

Sage is the niece of my Sista from another Mista, Lydia. Lydia's brother & Sage's dad, Seabury is away serving our Country in Afghanistan & so I really wanted to do this session for this budding little family who has so much on their plate in the Present Moment.

Knock on wood, I have yet to have a rainy wedding. And even though The Weather Channel was calling for dreary rain on Aimee & Charlie's wedding day, it never did really happen. There were a few showers here & there, but overall my record still stands.

Aimee & Charlie held their outdoor nuptials in a lush area of Toro Park that was a perfect backdrop for their laid back style.

I took these photos of him just one day before his one month birthday.

He was such a good little boy!

His mom had never put him on his tummy before, but he loved it. He even tried to lift his head up!

What a Champ. I love this. He is making the O Face. All new parents know and love this face...

Casey had never really been in the buff before either but he seemed to love that too.

He didn't fuss about anything. What a trooper.

If you are wondering where he is looking in most of these photos, he is gazing strait at his Momma.

He is clearly completely in love with her.

I had the pleasure of photographing this little Sweet Pea earlier in the week!

She was just shy of two weeks old & slept like an angel the entire time I was there.

Her mom had these great hats. Bunny Ears! A-dorable...

I give it a whirl at all of my newborn shoots.

I don't think people realize how much work goes into getting these little babies to go for it.

It definitely requires some major team work & patience from Mom & Dad!

Valenitne's Day Gifts

We are having our own little Baby Boom 'round these parts.
In this first story, a friend of mine, who is due with her & her Husband's first child in just a few weeks wanted to do something special for Valentine's Day that involved little unborn Mia. After playing with Lighting, Clothing & differerent angles, we settled on these two adorable photos.

I created a customized collage that encoperated both of these adorable photos of The Belly into one cohesive collage that could be framed as a gift. Love It!

The second story involves The Bittner's. Whose wedding I photographed just a while back. Drew called me a few weeks ago & asked about the possiblilty of surprising his new wife with their Wedding Album for Valentine's Day. I know... Auhhh. However, knowing brides, I thought it might be best if we didn't act too hastily & put together a Maternity Album for her as a surprise instead since Brides & their Wedding Albums have a very special relationship with one another. So we agreed to compromise & I went to work!...

Ironically, when the book was being printed, Jessica was having her Baby! It couldn't have worked out more perfectly & she received this album when Casey was a teensy, perfect 10 days old.

I loved researching the quotes.

The idea just came to me & I think it added something so poignant & special to the overall feel of the Album.

It just so happens that I will be caring for Casey for a few hours during the week once these two love birds get back to work & I couldn't be more thrilled to have a little muffin in the house again!

I'm sure I won't be able to resist his dashing good looks & so you will be seeing much of him in the very near future!

Between The White's Wedding & Reception, the three of us dashed down to Cannery Row in Monterey to take some portraits of just the two of them on the beach.

The first time I ever stopped traffic to get a photo I wanted, I was beyond nervous.

Like the Appropriate Police were going to come and take me away!

The Low Rider really made this set of images, I think.

I grabbed Shannon & Che one final time during the reception so we could go down to the Lobby & take a few more shots before we called it a night.

This is Drew, Jessica & Casey Bittner. Whom you may remember from their recent Wedding.

Jessica has the most perfect Belly I have ever seen. I wish she could keep it forever!

{However, she definitely does not have the same wish. Ha!}

Even though technically, Jessica still has another entire month to go before Casey gets here,

I predict he is a-comin'. Early. She looks like she's ready to blow at any moment.

It perfectly illustrates how teensy tiny she is & how adorable her bulbous tummy really is!

I had to share this image...

This is my daughter Lily & my husband Jason.

There was no photo shoot. No one was wearing anything special & it was not a noteworthy occasion.

In fact, Jason had just got home from work when I heard he & Lily having one of their little "How was your day?" conversations in our bedroom. And since it had been a while since I took a photo of them together, I grabbed my camera.

The way that I captured this shot is rather unromantic. They were laying together chitty chatting & so I jumped up on the bed & took the picture of them from above. The window was open {which is where the flood of natural light was coming from just as the Sun was setting... dusk.. My Fav.} and if our neighbors were watching, they would think we were nuts.

This photograph is the Epitome of what I shoot to capture. Pure, human emotion.

This photo needs no caption, because the caption is written all over my daughter's face. And in their embrace. I will cherish This Moment forever. And that is the purpose of Photography for me.

Audra. 9 Months. Children's Portraits.

Audra is nine months old!!!
OMgeee. She is getting so big!

Actually, I think she is ten months. But who's counting?

I love this age! It was my most favorite age when my daughter was a little chunky monkey.

Audra is bursting at the seems with her own unique Personality & it was awesome to see the transformation since I haven't been around her since she was six months old.

I have to admit, my favorite angle to take photos of babies from is from their own point of view.

Yay for outside! I've never been able to take photos of Audra outside because it is always so gloomy. But the sun was out & while it was still crisp, she loved it!

Shannon & Che held their ceremony & reception at the Hilton Garden Inn in Monterey.

It was my first wedding of 2011 so I was excited to get back into the swing of things!

Shannon's Daughter Mariah was a big part of the events of the day

& coincidentally happens to be a good friend of my daughter, Lily!

While the Ladies were upstairs doing the Anticipation thing, I found these dudes where dudes love to congregate.... The hotel bar. Che & his Groomsmen were incredibly cooperative & a ton of fun to hang around with. Real Jokesters, these kids were.

Che's Dad hung around with us too while The Guys waited for the Ceremony to begin.

I unofficially met Maia when she was in her Momma's Belly for Amy's Maternity Session.

I knew Maia was going to be quite a lucky girl when I first met Amy & Edgar. They were waiting for their daughter with such sincere anticipation & delight!

This new little family had a ton on their plate at the time of this session, including preparing to move cross country the very following day! Despite everything, they were all so calm & so I became stressed enough for all of them!

I thoroughly enjoyed meeting The Jimenez Family & while I am sad that I won't be able to follow Maia as she grows throughout her first year, I am so happy for Amy, Edgar & their brand new sweet baby girl.

Drew & Jessica. Greenfield Wedding.

Drew works with my husband & they have become good friends over the last year.
When Drew first told us that he was marrying Jessica, the next thing that came out of his mouth was,
"Jessica better be taking the pictures!" Sold!

I. Love. Sunglasses. All Grooms & Groomsmen should carry a pair in their coat pockets.
It is such a subtle but masculine touch that adds so much to a photograph.

Drew pinned his Brother & his Father's flower on. Or pretended to anyway. I had to step in!

Meanwhile, Jessica was getting ready at their house with all the ladies. The mood was calm & easy going.
No stress. Hooray!

Some of the Details......

Drew & Jess were married & held their reception at Jekel Vineyards in Greenfield.

I loved Jessica's shoes. Adorable. Drew's mom gave her a ring as a gift the night before the wedding but it didn't fit because Jessica is so itty bitty. So when she asked me to incorporate it into the photos, the shoes were a perfect fit!

Drew & Jessica opted for a First Look so they could see one another before the Ceremony. Love It.

It amazes me how couples always get anxious at this point, no matter how long they have been together.

...I love that the Fam was all looking on.

The Ceremony was touching & the rain held off just until it began! What luck!!!

Drew & Jess chose the Candle Unity Ceremony & I Ninja-ed my way back there. It was a packed house!

Amy. Monterey Maternity Session.

Okay, so I am so overly excited about these photos.
Truth be told, it is rare that I get to do a maternity session. Weddings sort of rule the roost around here at Sweet Pea. But when I first started off in this venture, it was with the intent of photographing Family Portraits. Of any sort. Maternity included. So this was like going back to my roots.

I give you The Lovely, Amy.

Who is 8.5 months pregnant with her first child. (Yes... I said 8.5 whole months. Lucky Girl.)
This is Maia {pronounced Maya}. She will be here at the beginning of December.

Now, usually new clients looking for maternity photos are incredibly uncomfortable.

And I totally get it. I mean, I am going to come to your house & ask you to undress yourself for money.

Knowing this, I always do my best to put people at ease. Because I sympathize & understand.

Okay, so I love Amy & Edgar. They are so in love. It is completely obvious. And they are so full of excitement & anticipation to meet their baby girl & become parents for the first time!!!

Of course, because it is fun, but also because I knew I would have free artistic reign with regards backdrops, layouts & color in their album.

Christina & Freddie blended their two families as one in a Unity Ceremony on a lovely afternoon in front of their children, family & friends.

There was something about this fountain where the ceremony was held that I found absolutely divine.

Christina & Freddie's first dance was so amazing. The light was amazing & the mood was amazing.

Christina & Freddie hired me last year, back when I was still wet behind the ears & just starting to consider making my way into the Wedding Industry. It seems like so long ago that we first met to discuss their plans & it was so great to see their vision come together on their special day!

Maira & Jason. Hollister Wedding.

Jason & Maira were married in a traditional Catholic ceremony at St. Benedict in Hollister on a warm, October afternoon.

The Church was so architecturally diverse & open. I loved the way the light flooded in through all the beautiful stained glass windows.

Before the ceremony, I went to Maira to photograph some wedding details while she prepared for her big day.

Summer blooms late in this area & Maira's fresh color pallet fit so well with the beautiful day.

The Reception was held at San Juan Oaks Golf Club just a few quick minutes away from The Church.

I stole Maira & Jason away from the party for a few Couple Shots just as the sun was beginning to set. I love being alone with the Bride & Groom because it gives them a chance to really savor the moment on what is surely a whirlwind of a day.

Congratulations Maira & Jason! I can't wait to hear about Maui!

Okay. A word on Shawn. He totally rocks.

One of my most favorite parts of shooting weddings has become following the Groom throughout the day.

Getting to see how He interacts with his mother & his Bride provide for some of the greatest emotionally stirring candid moments & tell a great deal about a man's character.

The heartfelt emotion during the ceremony was palpable. I love ceremonies like this.

I grabbed these shots of Shawn looking away to take a moment directly after he grabbed his first glimpse of Angie. Love.

My Lovelies Nicole & Gregg held their reception at The Gatherings in Pacific Grove.

I had never heard of the venue before & while I admit that at first, I was a little unsure of what to do with the unconventional layout, I quickly fell in love with not only their fantabulous food, but the warm, welcoming atmosphere & their phenomenal staff.

This elegant cake was made by none other than my best friend Lydia of Elle Cee's Cake Boutique!

The First Dance was Lovely!

This is hands down, my most favorite photo of Nicole. Ever. She is radiant with joy.

I like to take my Peeps outside or away somewhere during the Reception for just a few minutes to get a few extra shots of just the two of them. I love doing this because they are always more relaxed. The Tux jacket is off, the tie is loosened, the hair is wind blown.... and I feel that Brides & Grooms always look so much more In The Moment during this time than right after the wedding. These are always some of my favorite shots.

Back to the reception to cut the cake, & Dance, Dance, Dance the night away!

Nicole & Gregg. Lover's Point Wedding.

Nicole & Gregg, who you may remember from their Engagement Session, were married at Lover's Point Park in Pacific Grove.

I'll give you... The Details....

Nicole rented this little Cottage right across the street from Lover's Point to get ready in. It was such a great location with stunning views & crisp lighting. The weather was out of this world, in an area that usually is completely unreliable, at best. While Nicole was putting on her makeup, she told me that one of her best best friends who she always wanted in her wedding had passed away prematurely & so she was convinced that the Fabulous Weather was her gift to Nicole.

I adore Nicole. She is so charismatic.

She looks so happy, smiling from the inside out!

Love Her!

Nicole's Grandmother came in to Bless her before her Wedding & give her some loving tender advice from El Corazon. It was a very private & touching moment.

Now, Nicole & Gregg have this little dog, Max. Who may as well be their son, they are so taken with him. And while all of the Groomsmen {and of course, the handsome Groom} looked Dapper in their penguin suits, Max stole the show. Hands Down.

How many times can I say that I love Nicole & Gregg???

His first look at his Bride To Be....

Okay, so I have to tell the story behind the following image.

Remember the Fabulous Weather story that Nicole had mentioned to me before? Well, when I got this image out of my camera, I fell in love with it. But there is that blasted speck on Nicole's shoulder & I was annoyed about it. So I started working my Photoshop magic & then half way through fixing it, it dawned on me.

There is no reason for my camera to have captured lens flare under the shaded tree that I was standing under. It just doesn't make any sense. So I thought that while maybe it's a little superstitious, I should just leave it there in the picture. To symbolize Nicole's best best friend looking over her. Like an Angel.

Little Maxie needed to rest.....

Christina is one of my Brides. She is getting married at the end of October.

She has recently been exploring the World of Fashion Modeling & while I've never considered myself to be much of a Fashion Photographer, I jumped at the opportunity to work with Christina before her wedding day. So we could get better aquainted.

I had been wanting to get in this dried up River Basin & shoot some photos for months now...

I have so so So much to blog about, so forgive me for going out of chronological order, which is something I always try to stick to.

Anyway, Meet Shawn & Angie.

Their wedding is at the end of September & I am totally excited about it!

One of the reasons why I love engagement sessions so much is because The Couple gets acquainted with me. I know how uncomfortable it is to have your picture taken. I mean, I'm uncomfortable having my picture taken! And most people have never had professional photos taken of them to begin with, so engagements are a great time for me to show a couple that I don't bite despite what they may have envisioned & that in the end, it really is great fun to feel & look beautiful.
